My simple ways on breaking creative block
Have you encountered when you are going to start your design project and somehow your ideas blocked, like no ideas where to start with? Then you are experiencing creative block.
On this blog, I will talk about my simple ways to overcome creative block.
- Browsing other designer's work and go find some inspiration
By checking out other designers' work it will help you to get new ideas and concepts which you can apply to your own design projects. Focus to the details of their work will also help a lot (typography, proper use of spacing, color combination and layout design). You may also find some inspiration to people who greatly influenced you by studying their techniques and methodology.
- Keep your design simple
If you just starting out a design project, let say a website and basically you have no idea where to begin with, I recommend is to create a simple design layout. At this point, Since you already started your layout though it is only a simple design, Eventually your ideas will grow. You will start noticing what part of the design needs to be improve. This method works for me, as much as possible I keep my design simple and clean.
- Do stuff that aren't related on what you do
When I encounter creative block, another thing I used to do is I walk away from my oh-so-comfy chair and my computer and then take a walk and find some ideas, or sometimes I do stuff that are not related to my project like writing stuff, reading other blogs etc. This actually helps me get ideas in a sense that I’m not pressuring myself on a project. Keep calm and enjoy your day.
- Ask for opinions
Considering other people's point of view is indeed a big factor in getting rid of creative block. Yes, by asking their opinions on for instance, what color you should use for the background, or what he/she thinks about the layout or what not. In addition, you will also be reminded of the little things you've missed (because sometimes, we tend to forget even the little things), so it is better to have someone to talk to for opinions.
- Be organize and plan ahead
Organizing things before you start your project is also a great help. Having a plan is a huge factor because you will know what your priorities are. Creating a list of your workload that needs to be accomplished for the day will enable you to be updated on what's already done and what should be prioritized. This will set as your guide and will also save a lot of your time.
